How to Avoid Getting Sick in College
After an impromptu blogging-break I’m back! I hate not staying on schedule with my posts but sometimes life happens and right now life=finals. It’s been pretty hectic getting together my last few assignments of the semester.
In my recent busy days I realized how many college students catch a cold or the flu during the fall and winter months. This obviously isn’t a problem that only students face but living in such close quarters makes for some very sniffly class rooms.
While it might be tricky to avoid, there are a few things to do to dodge catching the college flu!
1. Eat Healthy Foods
Eating right helps you to boost your immune system and fight any viruses in your body! Choosing a lot of vegetables, fruits, and protein for your diet is super important!
2. Wash Your Hands Frequently
You go to so many places and touch so many things in a day when you’re in college (libraries, mail room, communal bathrooms, etc) You never know who was touching the books you’re flipping through before you. Make sure to wash your hands whenever you get the chance.
3. Take a Multivitamin
Having the correct vitamins in your system helps your body to fight any illnesses that may try to conquer you. Taking a vitamin every morning or night to help you to stay healthy and strong.
4. Drink Plenty of Water
It is important to stay hydrated for many reasons. As someone who frequently drinks way more coffee than water and then pays for it in migraines and dehydration, take it from me, drinking water is so important. Just like fruits and veggies, drinking a lot of water helps to fight infections and prevents viruses.
I recently got this super cool collapsible water bottle by Hydra Pak from Amazon. It’s awesome to carry with you when you have a long day ahead because once you’re finished you can just fold it up and stick it in your bag so you don’t have to carry around an empty bottle for the rest of the day!
5. Steer Clear of Others with a Cold
This is pretty much self-explanatory. Just remember to tell your coughing friends that you’re not mad at them, you just don’t want to catch their cold.
If you do end up catching a cold or the flu or any other type of sickness while you’re in college, remember to be respectful of others trying to avoid the sickness. Clean up after yourself by wiping down the things you touch in shared spaces and throwing away any tissues, remember to visit health services and take your medicines, and unless it’s detrimental to your grade, skip class.
Those are all the helpful tips I have! Stay healthy, before you know it the Holidays will be here!
Stay tuned for my 12 Days of Christmas posts! (Happening everyday from 12/14-12/25)
